The Navy League Panama Chapter is pleased to announce its upcoming bi-monthly dinner, to be held on Thursday, 4th June 2026, at the InterContinental Miramar Panama. This event continues our tradition of bringing together members and guests for an evening of professional exchange, networking, and insightful discussion on maritime and security affairs.
We are honored to welcome Captain Daniel Betancourt, U.S. Navy, currently serving as Senior Defense Official / Defense Attaché U.S. Embassy Panama , as our guest speaker for the evening.
Captain Daniel Betancourt, U.S. Navy, currently serves as the Senior Defense Official and Defense Attaché at the U.S. Embassy in Panama. A career Naval Aviator and Foreign Area Officer, Captain Betancourt brings more than 23 years of experience in diplomacy, security cooperation, international military training, and foreign military sales across Latin America and Asia.
Throughout his distinguished career, he has held key leadership positions including Chief of the U.S. Naval Mission in Colombia, U.S. Naval Attaché in Honduras, and Political-Military Affairs Officer at U.S. Southern Command. As a Naval Aviator, he flew the SH-60B Seahawk helicopter and deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, while also serving as an advanced helicopter instructor pilot.
Captain Betancourt is recognized for his expertise in strategic engagement, defense partnerships, and regional security cooperation. He is a graduate of the Naval Postgraduate School and the Joint Forces Staff College at the National Defense University.
For this dinner, Commander Bergen will address the topic:
“Maritime Security and Strategic Cooperation in the Americas”
A broad regional perspective on how navies and partner nations work together to address shared challenges including narcotics trafficking, illegal fishing, migration, and transnational crime.
